The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has appointed the former Deputy Governor of Osun State and former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, as Chairman of the Engineering Residency Program (ERP) Task Force.

This appointment was formally conveyed in a letter dated 15th May 2025, and signed by the Registrar of COREN, Engr. Prof. O.A.U. Uche.

The letter, titled “Appointment as Chairman, Engineering Residency Program Task Force to Advance the Implementation of Engineering Residency Programme (ERP) in Nigeria,” followed the decision made at the Council’s 185th Ordinary Meeting held on Thursday, 24th April 2025.

In the letter, the Registrar expressed the Council’s confidence in Senator Omisore’s vast experience, exemplary leadership, and longstanding commitment to the engineering sector.

Program Task Force, under Omisore’s chairmanship, has been mandated to serve as the primary body for advancing the full implementation of the ERP in Nigeria.

The task force is expected to secure institutional support, identify and mobilise sustainable funding from diverse sources, and advocate for the integration of the ERP within the national manpower development policy and framework.

The specific responsibilities outlined for the task force include developing a national advocacy strategy and implementation plan for the ERP; facilitating high-level engagements with public and private establishments, industries, regulatory bodies, and legislative institutions; and setting policy agendas that will support the inclusion of ERP in national development plans.

Also, the task force will lead sensitization and awareness campaigns through suitable communication platforms.

Furthermore, the task force is charged with identifying and sourcing funding from government allocations, private sector Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and development partners.
It is also tasked with mobilizing financial support from both local and international donor agencies, development banks, and multilateral institutions.

Senator Omisore will be supported in his role by a team of highly respected engineers. Engr. Habu A. Gumel, FNSE, FAEng, OON, has been named as Deputy Chairman of the Task Force, while Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE, is listed as a member, among other distinguished professionals.

COREN urged Senator Omisore to approach the assignment with the same excellence and dedication that has defined his career.

It also mentioned that the Council Secretariat would provide necessary support for his onboarding and the inauguration of the task force.

COREN extended its congratulations to Senator Omisore on his well-deserved appointment, expressing optimism about his leadership and the success of the ERP under his guidance.
Senator Omisore holds two engineering degrees and a postgraduate certificate from Brunel University, Uxbridge, United Kingdom, as well as a Ph.D. in Infrastructure Finance from the International School of Management in Paris.

He served as APC National Secretary from March 2022 to July 2023, and remains a prominent figure in both the engineering profession and Nigerian public service.
