After Backlash, OSPOLY Management Suspends ₦10,000 Endowment Fund

The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), has suspended its earlier directive mandating graduating students to pay ₦10,000 as an endowment fund before collecting their results, following widespread outrage from students and stakeholders.
DTRUTH INSIGHTS had earlier reported that the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede, in a memo dated October 16, 2025, announced that all graduating National Diploma (ND II) and Higher National Diploma (HND II) students would be required to pay the sum as part of an endowment scheme approved by the Governing Council during its June 25–26, 2025, meeting.
According to the earlier memo, the fund was intended to support the development of the institution, particularly in providing amenities and infrastructure, and was to be paid before graduating students could collect their final notifications of results.
However, the policy sparked outrage among students, who described it as an act of extortion and financial insensitivity. Many took to social media to condemn the decision, accusing the management of exploiting students despite recent increments in school fees.
Amid the growing backlash, the polytechnic’s management, in another memo dated October 20, 2025, announced the temporary suspension of the directive.
The new memo, signed by the Registrar, read in part: “Please refer to a memo dated 16 October 2025 with Reference Number: REG 20/VOLIV/204 on the above subject matter. This is to inform all graduating ND II and HND II students that actions on the provisions of the memo under reference are hereby temporarily suspended. All concerned students are to note this directive and act accordingly.”
