Gov. Adeleke Offers Davido New Appointment In Osun

The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The initiative is part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s efforts to reposition and transform the state’s sports sector through sustainable funding and strategic partnerships.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Osun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to his office in Osogbo, the state Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, said the appointment of Davido was aimed at attracting both local and international support for sports development in the state.
According to Adewusi, the state government is determined to rejuvenate Osun’s sports sector by ensuring that sporting facilities meet global standards.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which he said will be transformed into an Olympic-standard arena capable of hosting national and international competitions.
“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi assured.
He further revealed that plans are at an advanced stage to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, a central body that will oversee sports administration, development, and policy implementation across the state.
On the newly introduced Sports Trust Fund, Adewusi explained that the initiative is designed to attract funding support from philanthropists, organizations, and sports enthusiasts within and outside the state, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth of the sports sector.
“Davido did not hesitate in accepting the appointment to chair the Sports Trust Fund,” Adewusi noted, expressing optimism that the music icon’s involvement will attract financial and moral support from across the globe.
