The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, has organised a comprehensive free health screening for staff members, as part of activities marking its 50th Anniversary.

The initiative, held on Wednesday at the hospital’s Auditorium, on Wednesday, in Ile-Ife.

The featured a range of diagnostic tests including blood pressure checks, blood glucose monitoring, body mass index (BMI) assessment, hepatitis screening, urine analysis, and dental scaling and polishing.

Speaking during the exercise, Prof. Oluyomi Okunola, Consultant Physician and Vice-Chairman of the OAUTHC 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, explained that the screening formed an essential part of the hospital’s week-long jubilee activities.

Okunola said that the decision to prioritise staff health was rooted in management’s belief that “a healthy workforce is the backbone of any successful institution.”

“As a teaching hospital, we routinely conduct medical outreaches for the community, but many of our staff rarely benefit from such programmes due to their demanding schedules.

“This time, we are bringing the care home, to those who dedicate their lives to caring for others”. Prof. noted.

He added that early detection of potential health risks through such screenings would enable timely medical intervention and prevent avoidable complications.

“We cannot afford to lose any of our staff to preventable illnesses. This initiative is about ensuring that every member of our workforce is healthy, motivated, and capable of delivering quality healthcare to the public”. He said.

The Physician explained that the health screening reflects the hospital’s broader commitment to staff welfare and underscores the anniversary theme, which celebrates five decades of excellence in healthcare, training, and community service.

Speaking with one of the staff, Mr Kingsley Ogunne, from Corporate Service Department, commended fro the management for prioritising the healthcare of the staff.

Ogunne described the free screening as a thoughtful and timely gesture, especially given the increasing workload associated with hospital operations.

He ascertained that by integrating the free health screening into its 50th Anniversary celebrations, OAUTHC has not only honoured its legacy of service to the community but also reaffirmed its responsibility to the wellbeing of its most valuable asset, its staff.
