President Bola Tinubu has declared an emergency on training facilities for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies, citing concerns over their outdated condition.

The announcement was disclosed by Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions, during an on-the-spot inspection of facilities in Lagos.

Mbah, who was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Committee Secretary and former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), said the committee has 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to NEC for action.

According to Mbah, President Tinubu was deeply concerned that outdated training facilities are being used to prepare security personnel, who are expected to uphold human dignity in their interactions with citizens.

He explained that the President gave the directive during the last NEC meeting on October 23, stressing that the current state of the security training institutions “did not align with his dream of growing the economy to one trillion dollars in the next five years,” while emphasising the urgent need for modernisation.
