Protest Brews As OSPOLY Management Demands ₦10,000 Endowment Fund From Students

There is outrage among students of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), following a directive by the institution’s Governing Council that all graduating students must pay a sum of ₦10,000 as an endowment fund before they can collect their results.
The new policy, communicated through a memo signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede, dated October 16, 2025, stated that the decision was ratified during the Governing Council meeting held on Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26, 2025.
According to the memo, the fund is intended to support the development of the institution, particularly in providing essential amenities and infrastructure. The Registrar noted that the endowment fund would be managed by a committee comprising representatives from the institution’s management, the Osun State Ministry of Education, the Alumni Association, and the Students’ Union.
“The Governing Council of the institution approved the payment of a sum of Ten Thousand Naira (₦10,000) only by each graduating student of the institution as an endowment fund. The payment by each graduating student (ND II and HND II) is a viable way of contributing to the growth and development of the institution,” the memo read in part.
However, the directive has sparked widespread condemnation among students, who described the new fee as an act of extortion and financial insensitivity. Many students took to social media platforms to vent their frustrations, accusing the management of exploiting them despite recent increments in school fees.
A student, identified as Debby Olaide, wrote on Facebook, “Iree will always find a way to extort money from students, despite the increment of school fees.”
Another student, Oluwa Seyi, criticised the decision, saying, “There should be a protest. This is becoming too much for students. Pay this, pay that, do they even think we pluck money from trees? ₦10k for development, and nothing will still happen after payment.”
