A disturbing case has emerged from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), where a 400-level student, identified as Roseline, has accused Raphael Segun Larayetan, a lecturer and exam officer in the Department of English and Literary Studies, of sexually assaulting her after years of harassment.

Larayetan sleeping after raping Roseline, whose face has been redacted.

According to Roseline, Larayetan began harassing her during her first year at the university, exploiting her position as class deputy governor to initiate suggestive conversations and inappropriate advances.

She alleges that despite reporting his behavior to the then Faculty of Arts Dean, Ali Wasiu Oyedokun, the harassment persisted over several years, culminating in a rape incident at his residence in January.

Roseline has provided detailed accounts of the alleged assault, as well as evidence of the lecturer’s attempts to conceal his actions through restricted digital communication.

The student has submitted petitions to the university management, the Student Union Government (SUG), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Nigeria), and the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice.

The Omolade Asake Foundation, a non-profit supporting victims of sexual assault, is providing legal and psychological support.

The university has constituted a panel to investigate the allegations, while Larayetan has denied the accusations, describing them as “absolute lies” and emphasizing that the matter is under official review by the school.
