Electricity Tariff: See Full List Of Areas Enjoying 20-24 Hours Power Supply In Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Osun
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced on Wednesday a significant tariff increase for Band A electricity consumers, escalating the rate from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour (KW/h).
Band A customers, who enjoy 20 to 24 hours of power supply daily, will face this substantial hike.
During a press briefing in Abuja, the Vice Chairman of NERC, Musliu Oseni, disclosed that this adjustment would impact about 1.8 million subscribers, constituting 15% of the country’s 12 million electricity consumers.
He clarified that the revised tariffs would only affect Band A users, leaving other bands untouched.
The tariff restructuring aims to enhance service delivery and ensure the sustainability of the electricity sector.
Bloomberg’s report had previously indicated a potential increase to N200 per KW/h for urban consumers, as part of efforts to attract new investment and reduce the financial burden of subsidizing tariffs, which cost around $2.3 billion.
Punch’s investigation into the matter reveals that subscribers in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, and Kwara states under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s network, who fall into the Band A category, will be the primary ones affected by this new tariff plan, as detailed in NERC’s documents from February 2024.
