EndBadGovernance Protests: Agbajowo Fun Itesiwaju Iran Omo Oduduwa Calls For Peace, Urges Youth To Shun Protest
As a respected Yoruba cultural and socio-political group, Agbajowo Fun Itesiwaju Iran Omo Oduduwa wishes to unequivocally disassociate itself from the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled for August 1 across Nigeria. We acknowledge the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression; however, we strongly urge all Yoruba sons and daughters to refrain from participating in this demonstration. Our priority is to maintain peace and stability we cherish in our region.
The recent developments in our nation have sparked a range of emotions, and it is understandable that many are eager to express their concerns. However, we believe engaging in mass protests at this time could undermine the delicate peace we currently enjoy. The memories of the 2020 EndSARS protests and the subsequent unrest remain fresh in our minds. We cannot afford a repeat of such chaos, especially considering the complexities of our current socio-political landscape.
We are aware the protest organizers have highlighted issues of bad governance, economic hardship, and general dissatisfaction within the state of the nation. While these concerns are valid, we believe constructive dialogue and engagement with the government are more effective ways to address these issues. It is important to give President Bola Tinubu and his administration the necessary time and space to implement their “Renewed Hope” agenda, which aims to bring much-needed reforms and economic advancement to our nation.
We appeal to our youth, who are often at the forefront of such movements, to exercise caution and restraint. We recognize their passion and desire for a better Nigeria, but we urge them to channel their energy into more constructive engagement. Participating in a protest with the potential to turn violent or disruptive is not in the best interest of our people and our nation at large.
Agbajowo Fun Itesiwaju Iran Omo Oduduwa calls on community leaders, religious leaders, and parents to counsel their wards and congregations on the importance of maintaining peace and order. We must all play our part in preserving the tranquility and security of our region. Our collective strength lies in our unity and wisdom, not in acts that could lead to destruction and chaos.
Furthermore, we call on the Inspector General of Police and all security agencies to be vigilant and proactive in preventing any escalation of violence during this period. We trust that the security forces will act professionally and uphold the rule of law while ensuring the safety of all citizens. It is crucial that they are on red alert to prevent any situation from spiraling out of control, as was witnessed during the EndSARS protests.
We also encourage the government to listen to genuine concerns of the populace. It is important for the administration to engage in open dialogue and take tangible steps to address the issues raised by the citizens. A government that listens to its people is a government that can truly lead and foster development. We believe President Bola Tinubu is committed to this path, and we urge all parties to support his efforts.
In conclusion, Agbajowo Fun Itesiwaju Iran Omo Oduduwa reiterates its commitment to peace, stability, and the progress of the Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole. We urge all Yorubas to avoid any involvement in the planned protest and to encourage others to do the same. Let us work together towards a more constructive and peaceful resolution of our challenges.
Our group stands ready to collaborate with other organizations and government bodies to promote dialogue, understanding, and unity.
We believe in the strength and resilience of the Yoruba people, and we are confident that, together, we can overcome the challenges we face.
Finally, we pray for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria. May we continue to enjoy the tranquility and unity that has always been the hallmark of our great nation. Agbajowo Fun Itesiwaju Iran Omo Oduduwa will continue to advocate for the interests of our people and work towards a brighter future for all Nigerians.
