Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s management of the fuel subsidy crisis, sparking a social media trend where Nigerians have begun changing the president name to “T-Pain” on X (formerly Twitter).

Atiku used the nickname in a tweet on Thursday, expressing his concerns over rising inflation and the growing hardship faced by Nigerians under Tinubu’s administration.

Atiku’s statement drew attention to the severe economic challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, stating, “The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis.”

He further added, “It is even more worrying that T-Pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country.”

Since then, the nickname, “T-Pain” has spread across platforms like X and Instagram, as more Nigerians voiced their dissatisfaction with the economic situation.

See reactions on X below;

@attah_okor: T-pain created these people in a lab somewhere before the 2023 elections and without brains of course

@ifesalakooffice: T-pain is official. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@firstladyship: My victory is the fact that T-Pain embarrassed his once talking drums; including Wole Soyinka.

I don’t care about 2027. I care about what History is going to say. 30 years from now, no fraud will say he built Nigeria

He will be remembered as the man that buried a dying economy.

@Row_Haastrup: What is the Muslim Community & Islamic clerics, who were hell bent on ensuring T-pain gets to power, doing about the suffering of Nigerians?

@Oluwaloninyo: In T-Pain’s economy;
We buy oranges the price we used to buy apples.

Buy apples the price we used to buy Bread.

Buy bread the price we used to buy cake.

Buy cake the price we used to do party.

Buy phone the price we used to buy cars.

Buy cars the price we used to buy houses.

@TheMahleek: Even people wey stand on T-Pain mandate last year no fit stand the kind hardship wey dey this country rn 😭😭

Ire o✌🏽😁
