Despite Economic Hardship, 27 Ekiti Assembly Lawmakers Set To Visit Canada For Retreat
In the midst of Nigeria’s challenging economic situation, 27 lawmakers from the Ekiti State House of Assembly are preparing to embark on a trip to Canada for a legislative retreat.
According to an official letter signed by the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Titilayo Agbede and obtained by Dtruth Insights on Thursday, the visit, which will be led by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye, is aimed at equipping the legislators with skills to address policy implementation challenges back home.
The retreat is scheduled to take place in Brampton, Ontario, in November 2024, where the members will attend an Executive Legislative Leadership Retreat.
The retreat is designed to provide the lawmakers with knowledge and strategies essential for effective governance, particularly in navigating complex policy issues.
In addition to attending the retreat, the lawmakers intend to visit the Ekiti Kete Association in Canada for a courtesy meeting.
This visit is expected to foster relationships with members of the Ekiti diaspora and discuss initiatives that could support cultural development and promote Ekiti State’s growth. The meeting aims to engage the diaspora community in contributing towards the state’s socio-cultural and economic advancement.
The delegation includes senior officials such as the Majority Leader, Hon. Ige Tolulope Michael, and the Chief Whip, Hon. Olowookere Bosede Yinka. Spouses and other officials from the assembly are also expected to join the retreat.
The news of this international retreat has raised questions among citizens, as many Nigerians continue to face rising costs of living and economic instability.
Some Nigerians have expressed concerns over the potential costs associated with the trip, questioning whether such expenses are justified given the financial constraints affecting public resources.
