The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently disclosed details about the arrest of Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

Dtruth Insights had earlier reported that he was apprehended on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while trying to leave for London amid allegations of bribery against him.

EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale, told SaharaReporters in a telephone conversation on Friday that, “We arrested him last night and we took him to Abuja because our team investigators are in Abuja.”

The spokesman explained that Bobrisky was detained due to his refusal to honor a summons from the EFCC to reveal the names of officials he allegedly bribed.

“He was trying to run away from mentioning those he said collected bribe from him. We have sent him invitation but he refused to honour our invitation and he was trying to leave the country,” said Oyewale.

“This was why we arrested him. We want him to come and mention the names of the official involved in the bribery but he has not shown up,” he added.

The EFCC spokesperson stated that they have yet to determine if Bobrisky will be officially charged with bribery, saying, “I do not have any information regarding that yet.”

This recent arrest comes after a previous incident in October, when Bobrisky was detained by Nigerian Customs at the Seme-Nigerian border during an attempt to flee to the Benin Republic.

That arrest occurred shortly before he was scheduled to appear before a Senate inquiry regarding other allegations.
