Tragedy struck in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State as a joyous wedding ceremony turned into a horrific ordeal when the bride allegedly poisoned food served at the reception.
It was gathered that the incident left one person dead, while the groom remains critically ill in the hospital.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to PUNCH on Friday hinted that the bride’s actions might have been fueled by a personal vendetta.
The poisoned food, consumed by several attendees, caused chaos as victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
Confirming the incident, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam, revealed that two suspects, including the bride, have been arrested in connection with the tragic event.
According to him, the suspects are currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation.
“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, which led to the groom falling critically ill and the death of one guest. An investigation is underway, and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice is served,” DSP Adam stated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that all other wedding guests who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital, apart from the deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed.
“Our investigation is ongoing, and the public can rest assured that we are committed to unraveling the facts surrounding this incident. We urge everyone to remain calm while we work to bring those responsible to justice,” he added.
