OAU Students Raise Concern Over Rising Cult-Like Activities On Campus

The students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, under the umbrella of the Great Ife Students’ Union, have expressed grave concerns over the rising presence of cult-like activities on campus.
This follows reports of suspicious movements and behaviors by certain individuals, which have begun to unsettle the university community.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 26, 2025, the Great Ife Students’ Union condemned these activities, reiterating its long-standing zero-tolerance policy for cultism.
The statement, signed by the Secretary-General of the Union, Babatimehin Kínfẹ́ọsi, Public Relations Officer, Aka Daniel and the President, Omoboriowo Damilola Isaac, emphasized the Union’s commitment to maintaining OAU’s reputation as a cultism-free campus.
“The Great Ife Students’ Union holds in high regard the sacrifice of George Iwilade (Afrika) and the OAU 5, who lost their lives in the fight against cultism. Their legacy is one we will never dishonor,” the statement read.
The Union urged all students to remain vigilant and security-conscious while avoiding any form of association with cult-like activities.
They encouraged students to promptly report suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities to ensure the safety of the university environment.
They stated that OAU remains a fortress against cultism, and the Union would take decisive action against anyone found engaging in or promoting such practices.
“Our unity is our strength. Together, we will uphold the values of our institution and protect the safety of our community,” they added.
Students have also been reminded that any individual—student or non-student—caught engaging in cultism or related activities will face the full wrath of the law.
The Union assured the university community that it remains steadfast in its fight to eradicate any trace of cultism from the campus.
The Great Ife Students’ Union reaffirmed its mission to protect the interests of students and safeguard the integrity of the institution. With a strong call to action, the Union declared, “No to cultism! Aluta Continua!”
