The Oyo State Government has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.

Dr Wasiu Ajani Olatunbosun, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Oyo State, confirmed this on Monday that the revered monarch is alive and in good health.

“I just spoke with the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Oyo State, Dr Wasiu Ajani Olatunbosun, and he has confirmed to me that Kabiyesi Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is alive, hale and hearty. Kindly ignore the purveyors of fake news. Olorun a bá wà di Baba mú,” stated Michael Ogunsina, the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

The rumour, which spread rapidly across social media, had sparked concerns among residents and traditional stakeholders in the state.

However, officials have assured the public that there is no cause for alarm.

A social media influencer based in Oyo State, Ogunsina Oluwaseun Michael, also debunked the false report, urging calm.

“There is nothing wrong with Baba Olubadan. May the Lord keep him for us in good health,” he said.

The Oyo State Government has cautioned against the spread of unverified information, emphasising the need for responsible reporting, especially on matters concerning revered traditional institutions.
Oba Olakulehin, who ascended the throne as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, remains a symbol of unity and cultural heritage in the state.

His well-being is of utmost importance to the people of Ibadan and beyond.

Residents have been urged to rely on official sources for credible updates and to refrain from sharing unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic.
