2026: Adeleke Speaks On Dumping PDP For APC

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dispelled growing rumours suggesting that he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
This assurance came as the entire members of the Osun State Executive Council, comprising Commissioners and Special Advisers, rallied in total solidarity behind the Governor, vowing to remain steadfast with him and the ruling PDP in the state.
Speaking through his cabinet members at a press conference held in Osogbo on Monday, Adeleke described the defection rumour as a “falsehood from the pit of hell,” insisting that he remains committed to the PDP platform that brought him to power.
The Secretary of the Forum of Commissioners, Dosu Babatunde, who read the text of the briefing, asked Osun residents to disregard the “mischievous insinuations” being circulated by members of the opposition.
“Your Excellency, we are using this opportunity to further affirm and reaffirm our love and unshakable solidarity to you and your administration. We read with great consternation the many insinuations being mischievously peddled about mass defection from PDP to APC,” Babatunde said.
He continued: “This is a political fallacy taken to the extreme. No amount of political gerrymandering by the opposition will derail our commitment to the PDP, a party we fought hard to build.”
Flanked by notable cabinet members including the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi; Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations, Biyi Odunlade; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi Bada; and others, Babatunde declared that Adeleke remains firmly rooted in the PDP and would not jump ship.
He further noted that the executive council stands “like a rock of Gibraltar” behind Adeleke and his developmental strides across Osun State.
On the 2026 governorship race, the commissioners and special advisers expressed confidence that the people of Osun would once again return Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor, pointing to his track record of performance and people-centred governance.
Fielding questions from journalists, Babatunde emphatically stated: “Governor Adeleke is going nowhere. He is not defecting to any party. He remains a proud PDP Governor and will continue to deliver dividends of democracy to Osun people.”
The Executive Council also pledged continued loyalty to the leadership of the PDP in Osun State under Sunday Bisi, dismissing opposition attempts to destabilise the ruling party as “dead on arrival.”
