Ile-Ife Agog For 2025 Olokun Festival

The ancient city of Ile-Ife, regarded as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, was on Monday engulfed in cultural splendour and spiritual fervour as the 2025 edition of the World Olokun Festival unfolded with grandeur and reverence.

Leading the global celebration was Her Majesty, Olori Afolasade Ashley Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Yeye Omi Oodua of the Source, who stood at the helm of this sacred gathering with poise and spiritual authority.

Under her leadership, and with the blessing of the Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the city welcomed Yoruba sons and daughters from across the world in honour of Olokun—the revered deity of the deep sea, custodian of divine mysteries and provider of wealth.

The festival grounds in Ile-Ife came alive with sacred rites, cultural performances, traditional drumming, and symbolic dances.

Adorned in regal attire, spiritual adherents, traditional leaders, and cultural ambassadors converged to pay homage to the spirit of Olokun.

Each ceremonial act echoed the unbroken legacy of Yoruba cosmology, drawing attention to the depth of ancestral wisdom and the richness of the people’s spiritual heritage.

In her address, Her Majesty Olori Afolasade Ashley called for unity, peace, and a renewed connection to ancestral values.

She reminded attendees of the profound blessings embedded in Yoruba tradition and the need to uphold them in a changing world.

As the World Olokun Festival concludes its first phase, attention now shifts to the forthcoming World Osara Festival scheduled for May 3, a continuation of the sacred rites honouring fertility and divine abundance.

Once again, Ile-Ife has reaffirmed its place as the spiritual heartbeat of the Yoruba nation and the global epicentre of cultural pride.
