Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman and CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), today implored the newly inaugurated National Media Team for the 2025 Hajj to prioritize justice and fairness in their reporting of the Nigerian contingent.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Hajj House in Abuja, Professor Usman underscored the media’s crucial role in the success of the upcoming pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that media outlets are not only vital for disseminating information but also wield significant power to guide or manipulate public opinion.

“All of you are equally important in the success of 2025 Hajj,” Professor Usman stated. “You tell the story of Hajj to the world and help people to see what is happening.”

He further cautioned the team, reminding them of the profound impact their work can have. “We all know that the media is a very powerful tool to guide or manipulate the public because what you write, what you show or what you say will have great impact on the many people the story will reach,” he said. “So do your work, please do your work with fairness, justice and before that or after with the fear of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Your job can help sow truth and also help the pilgrims to be informed.”

Professor Usman advised the team to foster a spirit of collaboration and work cohesively. He also expressed NAHCON’s gratitude for the media’s ongoing support to the commission.

In an update on the ongoing airlift operations, the NAHCON CEO revealed that 12 states have successfully completed the airlift of their pilgrims to Saudi Arabia since the operation began on May 9. As of this morning, a total of 30,071 Nigerian pilgrims from the government quota have beenNAHCON Chairman
