Muili Takes Helm as 16th NSE Ikeja Chairman, Vows to Build Viable Engineering Culture
Engr. Nimot Muili, has officially assumed office as the 16th Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, pledging to champion a viable engineering culture that will significantly contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.
The historic inauguration ceremony, held at the BON Hotel Ikeja Residence, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, was a convergence of engineering luminaries, stakeholders, and well-wishers.
In her inaugural address, Engr. Muili expressed profound humility and gratitude, acknowledging the unwavering support of past leaders and members who have solidified the Ikeja Branch’s reputation as ’The Branch to Beat’.
She emphasized that her ascendancy to the leadership role is a culmination of extensive preparation and a renewed call to action for collective excellence.
“Today is more than a ceremonial gathering,It marks a celebration of our shared journey, our collective wins, and a recommitment to Building a Viable Engineering Culture that contributes meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development through engineering excellence.”
she revealed that are tenure will be guided by a 10-year Strategic Plan designed for continuity, innovation, and lasting impact.
The new Chairman proudly enumerated the branch’s collective achievements, attributing them to strong collaboration across government, academia, industry, and its dedicated members. Notable successes include.
“We commission a solar power system for sustainable energy, Secured an 80KVA diesel generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply, Replacement of the damaged roof of the Rauf Aregbesola Engineering Resource Centre, Installation of a branded access door at the administrative office and pioneering the V-STEAM Initiative in line with the MOPSA Agenda Theme IV – Community Impact, among other projects.”
Muili unveiled the branch’s strategic theme, ‘Innovation for Tomorrow: Resilient Infrastructure with the Blue Economy’, noting that it aligns with the upcoming NSE Annual Conference and AGM in Ibadan, themed ‘Engineering Innovation for a Sustainable Blue Economy’.
She underscored the immense potential of the Blue Economy – encompassing sustainable fisheries, maritime transport, aquatic agriculture, marine-based tourism, waste management, and renewable marine energy – for economic diversification and job creation in Lagos.
Muili also highlighted the need to promote tourism and recreational infrastructure investments, expand sailing sports, upgrade water transport infrastructure, support sustainable aquatic agriculture and collaborate with federal agencies to attract specialized maritime financing.

Engr. Margaret Oguntala,
congratulated Engr. Muili and the new Executive Committee, urging them to justify the trust reposed in them through visionary and inclusive leadership. She emphasized the importance of unity, cooperation, and active participation from all members.
President Oguntala also charged the Executive Committee to prioritize unity among members, build strong professional careers, and deliberately and continuously mentor young engineers to prepare them for evolving professional challenges.
She reiterated the significance of the MOPSA document, now adopted as the NSE Strategic Agenda, and encouraged the branch to prioritize community-based engineering initiatives and strengthen STEM education.
In a plea for financial responsibility, the NSE President urged members to promptly fulfill their outstanding membership dues, stressing their importance in funding the Society’s programs. She also encouraged qualified members to take advantage of the newly approved opportunity for life membership.
The Immediate Past Chairman of the NSE Ikeja Branch, Engr. Femi John Adedotun, extended a warm welcome to the new leadership, expressing confidence in their ability to elevate the professional body to new heights.
He advised Muili to remain focused and emphasized the importance of continuous forward momentum, drawing a parallel to riding a bicycle: “To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Don’t stand still!”
