The ancient city of Iwo, Osun State, was thrown into celebration on Tuesday as the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, arrived at the palace of the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi for a historic royal visit.

Residents trooped out in large numbers, chanting traditional songs and waving symbolic emblems of Yoruba heritage as the revered monarch’s convoy made its way into the city.

The atmosphere was thick with excitement and cultural pride, with traditional drummers, dancers, and palace aides adorning ceremonial attire to herald the Alaafin’s entrance.

The visit, which had been long anticipated, is expected to strengthen the longstanding cultural and historical ties between the Oyo and Iwo kingdoms.

The Oluwo, in his usual regal fashion, welcomed the Alaafin with a royal embrace.

Dignitaries, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics and political figures across the South-West region also graced the colourful occasion.
