Chief Suspended Over Viral Poisoning Video In Osun

The Ijesa Sports Club in Ilesa, Osun State, has suspended one of its members, Chief Gbenga Ajibade, following his alleged involvement in a poisoning incident that recently went viral on social media.
The suspension, which took immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by the Director of Social and Publicity of the club, Hon. Kenneth Opebiyi.
The club said the decision was taken after an emergency meeting of its executive committee held on Tuesday, 6 August, 2025.
Chief Ajibade is alleged to have attempted to poison another individual over a dispute reportedly linked to maize theft.
Disturbing visuals purportedly showing the incident have been widely circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook, sparking outrage among members of the public.
While describing the development as deeply unfortunate and capable of dragging the club’s image into disrepute, the club’s executive body stated that it had no choice but to take disciplinary action to preserve its core values of justice, community respect, and accountability.
“After careful deliberation and in light of the seriousness of the allegation, the club hereby suspends Chief Gbenga Ajibade from all club activities, pending the outcome of the ongoing police investigation,” the statement read.
The club further stated that it would initiate its own internal disciplinary process once law enforcement concludes its findings.
It added that no member, regardless of status, would be allowed to tarnish the reputation of the institution.
“We want to make it clear that the Ijesa Sports Club remains committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct. No individual’s actions should bring shame upon our club or threaten the dignity of others,” the statement added.
Efforts to reach Chief Ajibade for comment proved abortive as of the time of filing this report. Police authorities are yet to make an official statement regarding the status of the investigation.
