The chairman of Ifelodun local government area of Osun State under the All Progressives Congress, Hassan Okanlawon, has ordered an immediate halt to the operations of Sanlomg Quarry in Obaagun area of the state.

According to Okanlawon, the closure became necessary following the recent accident involving a trailer in Ikirun on Tuesday.

Okanlawon said pending government intervention to construct alternative roads in Ikirun, the operation of Sanlomg Quarry will be halted, directing truck drivers and owners to transport loads exclusively from Best Stone Quarry until further notice.

The APC chairman also said trucks are not permitted to pass through Oke Obaagun to Ikirun until an alternative road is provided by the state government.

A statement by the media team of the APC LG chairman on Friday, said the directives were parts of the resolutions agreed upon at a stakeholders meeting involving the chairman and representatives from the Truck Owners Association of Nigeria (Ifelodun Branch), the Association of Truck Drivers (Ifelodun Local Government Branch), pertinent security agencies, and Akinrun in Council held at the conference hall of the local government.

The resolutions further read, “It was resolved to identify and provide alternative routes for trucks transporting materials from quarries, aiming to minimize traffic through community roads and reduce the risk of accidents.

“All loaded trucks must cover their loads adequately to prevent spillage and improve safety on the roads during transportation.

“Quarry companies operating within Ifelodun Local Government shall be responsible for the maintenance of local roads affected by their operations, particularly those with potholes, to ensure safer passage for all road users.”
