The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has raised serious concerns over what it described as a disturbing escalation of violent attacks in Ikire, following the killing of a young boy, Adesile Seebu, earlier on Friday.

In a statement on Friday signed by the party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, the PDP said the ancient town has been thrown into fear in recent weeks due to repeated assaults allegedly linked to a supporter of the AMBO campaign team, identified as Akinkunmi Alabi, popularly known as Ojuyobo.

According to the party, Ojuyobo, who was declared wanted during the 2023 general elections for violent activities, has resurfaced and has been associated with multiple attacks on residents.

The PDP expressed shock that an individual with such a history was recently seen accompanying the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) during his visit to Irewole/Isokan Local Government, an outing during which residents were reportedly harassed and injured.

The party said the continued activities of the group allegedly loyal to the AMBO team have endangered the peace of Ikire and heightened fears among residents, despite what it described as the patience and resilience of the people.

“This is not about politics; this is about human life and community peace,” the statement read. “We call on the Nigeria Police, DSS, NSCDC, and other relevant security agencies to act immediately. The perpetrators must be arrested before the situation degenerates into a full-blown communal crisis.”

The PDP also urged security agencies to investigate the alleged network enabling Ojuyobo’s activities, insisting that no individual or group should be shielded from accountability.

The party noted that Osun has enjoyed relative calm in recent times and warned that allowing criminal elements to operate unchecked could jeopardize the safety of communities. It called for justice for the deceased boy and protection for residents of Ikire as tension continues to rise.

In a counter-statement signed by Adebayo Adedeji, Coordinator of the AMBO Media Fronts, the group alleged that the deceased had been declared wanted in connection with the killing of APC chieftain, Hon. Remi Abass, on February 17, 2025. It claimed that Seebu recently resurfaced in Ikire in the company of other suspects during a road flag-off event organized by Senator Lere Oyewumi of the PDP.

According to the AMBO camp, Seebu died following a violent internal clash among PDP-aligned individuals over the sharing of iron rods being excavated for the road project. The group said reliable reports indicated that the fight broke out among the alleged thugs themselves, leading to the fatality.

AMBO further argued that no event or activity involving its supporters took place in Ikire on the day of the killing and accused the PDP of launching a defamatory attack aimed at tarnishing the image of its principal. It described Asiwaju Oyebamiji as a peaceful figure whose statewide governorship consultations had recorded no violent incidents, except for one in Apomu where AMBO supporters were allegedly attacked.

The group also accused certain PDP figures of attempting to derail the investigation into the murder of Hon. Remi Abass, alleging that the latest incident might be an attempt to divert attention from ongoing prosecutions linked to that case.

AMBO called on the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, to launch an independent and thorough investigation into both Seebu’s death and the PDP’s allegations.
