2026: Blurry Hope For Osun APC Victory As Party Suspends Aregbesola
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over allegations of anti-party activities.
This decision, which has taken immediate effect, raises concerns about the party’s prospects for the upcoming 2026 elections.
Aregbesola’s suspension follows a petition from the Ilesa East Local Government APC Executive Committee, which accused him of actions undermining the party, including promoting factionalism and colluding with opposition parties.
The Osun APC Executive Committee has since notified the party’s national leadership about this suspension, signaling a significant shift within the party’s dynamics.
The resolution to suspend Aregbesola, dated October 22, cites multiple allegations against him, including forming the Omoluabi Caucus splinter group and publicly criticizing key party leaders, including President Bola Tinubu.
The committee has established a disciplinary panel to investigate the charges, with Aregbesola invited to defend himself.
The timing of this suspension raises questions about the APC’s unity and strategy leading into the 2026 elections. Many political analysts believe that Aregbesola’s absence could weaken the party’s chances, as he is considered a significant political player in Osun State.
Nigerians have reacted with a mix of concern and skepticism. Some see the suspension as a necessary step to maintain party discipline, while others worry it could fracture the party’s base and alienate voters. Social media platforms are buzzing with opinions, reflecting a public anxious about the implications for the APC’s electoral future.
As the party faces this internal strife, the question remains: can the APC unify and rally support in time to secure a victory in 2026, or will Aregbesola’s suspension mark the beginning of a turbulent path ahead? The coming weeks will be crucial as the disciplinary panel reviews the allegations and the party seeks to restore confidence among its members and the electorate.
