BREAKING: Bobrisky Sues EFCC (Photos)
Crossdress Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
In a suit marked FHC/L/CS/****/2024, the crossdresser is seeking enforcement of his fundamental rights as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Bobrisky, through his counsel, filed the application following alleged harassment, defamation, and rights violations stemming from an investigation into corruption allegations against the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Services.
The allegations were based on a purported WhatsApp phone call recording published by one Martins Vincent Otse (a.k.a. Verydarkman), which Bobrisky claims to be unauthentic.
The applicant seeks several reliefs, including an order restraining the EFCC and other respondents from further attempts to harass, declare him wanted, or interfere with his fundamental rights.
He also demands N1 billion in damages against the EFCC for alleged defamation and rights violations, and N200 million against the National Assembly for mental torture and stigmatization.
Bobrisky further alleged that the EFCC violated his rights to privacy, fair hearing, and dignity, as guaranteed under the Constitution.
He highlighted the humiliation, social media ridicule, and threats he endured due to the EFCC’s actions, adding that his right to legal representation was denied during a panel investigation convened on September 30, 2024.
The court documents also accuse the EFCC of failing to verify the authenticity of the defamatory material before summoning Bobrisky.
He described the actions of the respondents as a breach of his constitutional rights, citing provisions of Article 2 and 7 of the African Charter and Chapter IV of the 1999 Constitution.
