Tragedy As Police Officer Accidentally Kills Governor’s Sister
Tragedy struck in Taraba State as Atsi, the younger sister of Governor Agbu Kefas, succumbed to gunshot injuries inflicted by an accidental discharge from a police officer.
The unfortunate incident, which occurred during an attack by suspected kidnappers, has thrown the governor’s family and the state into mourning.
The incident took place on December 5 along the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area when gunmen on motorcycles suspected to be kidnappers ambushed the convoy of the governor’s mother, Jummai Kefas.
In a bid to repel the attackers, a police escort in the convoy fired at the gunmen, but the bullet tragically struck Atsi, 44, who was seated next to her mother.
Atsi was initially rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Wukari for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Abuja for advanced medical care.
Despite efforts to save her life, she passed away on Tuesday, December 10, in the hospital.
Although the Taraba State Government is yet to officially announce her death, a source close to the administration confirmed the development, noting that the information is being handled with caution.
“Please don’t quote me because it has not yet been made public,” the source reportedly told Daily Trust.
The tragic loss has left many in Taraba State heartbroken, with questions being raised about the circumstances leading to the fatal discharge. Governor Agbu Kefas is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, as the family and the state come to terms with the devastating loss.
