Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, who gained national acclaim for rejecting a $200,000 bribe in a high-profile armed robbery case, has converted to Islam.

The conversion ceremony took place at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Tuesday.

During the private event, Amah adopted the name “Muhammad” and was formally welcomed into the Islamic faith. The Emir encouraged him to deepen his understanding of Islam and remain steadfast in observing its five pillars: belief in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca and charitable giving (Zakat).

The Emir also prayed for Allah’s guidance, urging Amah to uphold his exemplary character and respect his parents regardless of their religious affiliations.

Amah gained national recognition in April 2022 when, as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects. The suspects had stolen over ₦300 million during a robbery targeting a Bureau De Change operator with $750,000 in cash.

In acknowledgement of his integrity, the Police Service Commission promoted Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari also celebrated Amah’s actions, presenting him with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award.

The award was recommended by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, who described Amah’s conduct as exemplary.
