There was panic in the Igbona area of Osogbo on Thursday afternoon when some yet-to-be-identified hoodlums reportedly clashed in the area, with two people feared dead.

According to sources, trouble started when the hoodlums clashed over who to collect ‘area boys’, money at an ongoing project site at at Bishop/Ayoola Street.

The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m and residents and shop owners in the area scampered for safety.

A source who witnessed the incident said one of the hoodlums who shot at the victim came with a Toyota Camry car and had a pump action gun.

The source said the hoodlum, after shooting the victim, rushed back to where he parked his vehicle on the main road and drove off.

The source said, “The thug came in a Toyota Camry car. After shooting the victim, he rushed back to where he parked his car on the main road and drove off.

“It was a real panic in the area. I was inside my shop when the incident happened. The thug, in his bid to get away, smashed a mini-bus (Korope) but droved off without minding.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, DSP Abiodun Zachariah confirmed the incident.

He however did not confirm whether two people were killed during the incident.

Zachariah told our reporter that, “Yes there was shooting within that environs, what happened was that an Engineer was constructing a building in that area. On Thursday afternoon, one of the factions of the ‘state boys’ came to collect royalty and he settled them with N200,000.

“A few hours after, another group came, and the Engineer also settled them with N200,000. Meanwhile, one of the two groups claimed to be the ‘Egbatedo boys’. But after leaving, another group came around and claimed they were the ‘Egbatedo boys.’ So, the Engineer told them he had already settled people from their side.

“The left and remobilised back to the site, shooting sporadically. However, when police officers got to the place, the thugs ran away. Our officers are on ground to do the needful as the situation is under control.”
