The Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Prof John Okeniyi, on Friday played host to members of the Old Grammarians Society of CMS Grammar School, Lagos, in Ile-Ife.

The visiting alumni, led by Mr Babajide Adeagbo of the 1984 set, commended Prof Okeniyi’s stewardship since his assumption of office, describing his leadership at the foremost medical institution as both visionary and result-driven.

Adeagbo noted that the visit was not only to reconnect but also to monitor and encourage performance among old students holding public positions, in line with the ethical standards for which CMS Grammar School is known.

In his remarks, Prof Okeniyi, visibly moved by the show of solidarity, welcomed the group warmly and expressed deep appreciation for their gesture.

He recounted the tumultuous state of the hospital upon his assumption of duty, citing industrial unrest and administrative instability occasioned by a string of acting CMDs.

He said his focus has since been on sanitising the system, upholding meritocracy, and repositioning the complex for world-class service delivery.

The CMD highlighted key milestones under his leadership, including two successful promotion exercises, conversion of junior staff, training of 40 fire safety officers in response to the absence of fire service in Ile-Ife, and advancements in specialised medical services such as open-heart surgery. Prof Okeniyi further revealed the hospital’s shift to digital health records, ongoing solar energy interventions to address erratic power supply, and the full accreditation of all 18 previously assessed programmes.

He affirmed the institution’s resolve to sustain excellence in healthcare, research and manpower development across the board.
