A young life was tragically cut short today in Ibadan when a student, on his way to sit for his West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) exam, was killed by a stray bullet reportedly fired by police officers. The incident occurred as law enforcement pursued suspected internet fraudsters, often referred to as “Yahoo boys.”

Eyewitnesses report that the fatal shot originated from a police team chasing a moving vehicle along Gbagi Market Road. The bullet struck the innocent student who was a passenger on his father’s motorcycle.

Immediately following the incident, sympathizers rushed the gravely injured student to Welfare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. In a display of profound grief and anger, protestors subsequently took the victim’s body to the State Secretariat, hoping to bring the matter to the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde.

As of the time of this report, the state police command has yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic development. The incident has ignited public outrage and calls for accountability, raising serious questions about police conduct during pursuits in densely populated areas.
