The Federal Government has announced the resolution of a technical issue that affected the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, the government confirmed that the glitch occurred during post-release processing, particularly in subjects where paper serialisation was deployed as part of the West African Examinations Council’s security measures.

According to the statement, the Ministry commended WAEC for its swift response, transparency, and professionalism in handling the issue, adding that updated results would be accessible through the result checker portal within the next 24 hours.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all affected candidates and wish to reassure the public that we remain committed to upholding credibility, transparency, and fairness in all public examinations,” the statement read in part.

The Ministry also noted that the development aligns with the Honourable Minister’s ongoing education reform agenda, which prioritises the integrity of examinations conducted by WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

As part of the reform, both WAEC and NECO are expected to commence a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) from November 2026, starting with the objective sections of examinations.

The CBT initiative, according to the Ministry, is aimed at reducing examination malpractice, preventing leakages, and restoring public confidence in the examination system.

“Safeguarding the integrity of examinations is not optional. It is essential,” the statement quoted the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Alausa, as saying.

He added that maintaining high standards in national assessments was critical to protecting the future of Nigerian students and ensuring the continued recognition of their certificates both locally and internationally.
