Things You Should Know About PDP’s New National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki
In late October 2025, the political winds within Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party shifted decisively.
After weeks of speculation, Northern stakeholders of the party convened in Abuja and endorsed Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for national chairman.
The endorsement was announced at a high-profile gathering attended by key figures from across the North, including PDP governors, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and other senior party leaders.
Former lawmaker, Senator Ben Obi, representing Anambra Central, officially declared Turaki as the new National Chairman of the PDP on Saturday night.

Turaki is a legal expert with experience across multiple areas of law, including constitutional law, election petition litigation, commercial arbitration, cross-border and international criminal law, intellectual property, oil and gas, and corporate mergers and acquisitions. He is also a Notary Public.
His professional credentials include several fellowships and honours such as FCIArb (Fellow, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators) and FCIDA (Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration). These accolades reflect his extensive knowledge and respected standing in the legal community.
2. Political Experience and Service
Turaki has held several key positions in government, including:
Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs
Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity
Within the PDP, he chairs the PDP Former Ministers’ Forum, a role that enhances his influence and connections across the party.
Turaki has also contested the governorship of Kebbi State and aspired for the PDP’s presidential ticket, demonstrating his long-standing engagement in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Born on April 3, 1957, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Turaki hails from a respected family with a tradition of scholarship and public service.
He holds traditional titles including Dan Masanin Gwandu and Zarumman Kabbi, reflecting his standing in his community.
Turaki is widely recognised for his modesty, humility, and commitment to public service.
