Fire & Train Incidents: Balogun Sympathises With Victims, Calls For Improved Safety Measures
THE NATION REPORTERS reports that Gubernatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Mr. AbdurRazaq Tope Balogun, has expressed shock over the recent incidents in Lagos involving a fire that destroyed shops at the Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, and a train accident that involved a fully loaded Lagos State Government staff bus.
In a statement, Balogun commiserated with the families of the victims and called for measures to be put in place to prevent future occurrences.
“While certain accidents are unforeseen, there is a need to put in place mechanisms to prevent them through proper safety and precautions,” Balogun said. He also reiterated the importance of having fire stations in close proximity to neighborhoods to ensure a rapid response in the event of a fire.
Balogun expressed appreciation for the first responders to both incidents and called for calm among residents regarding the fire accident to avoid political insinuations. He urged security and safety agencies to investigate the cause of the incident.
In addition, Balogun prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the train incident and called on the government to provide support for the spare part dealers who suffered losses due to the fire.
