BREAKING: Another Popular Pastor Is Dead
A popular South African pastor, Reverend Erlo Hartwig Stegen, died at the age of 88.
He was a prominent figure in the KwaSizabantu Mission church, located in Kranskop, and his demise, after a prolonged illness, occurred at his residence on Tuesday.
Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, the son of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, shared their heartfelt pain, expressing that Stegen’s passing coming so soon after his father’s felt like an additional blow.
He described the depth of their grief, equating it to a sense of personal loss. Prince Zuzifa recalled visiting Stegen on the preceding Saturday, maintaining hope for his recovery.
He believed in the power of words even when the body falters, as the ears can still perceive.
Regarding his father’s bond with Stegen, Prince Zuzifa emphasized its strength, comparing them to brothers. Their friendship, which dated back to their childhood, thrived on a shared love for God and a deep commitment to community service. Stegen’s contributions in creating job opportunities for many further solidified this connection, fostering a sense of familial closeness between their households.
In times of adversity, the Stegen family had been a steadfast source of support for the Buthelezi family, standing with them through difficult moments. Notably, during a challenging period at home, the Stegen family provided both emotional and practical assistance, offering comfort and even delivering supplies like Aquelle drinks.
While acknowledging historical allegations of misconduct at Sizabantu Mission, which prompted intervention by the Human Rights Commission, this occasion focused on honoring the enduring friendship and spiritual unity between Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Reverend Erlo Hartwig Stegen. The details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated in a forthcoming press release, once all preparations have been completed.
