Alh. Samaila AA Rukuba Analysis On War Against Plateau And Way Forward
The situation in Plateau demands a thorough examination, especially considering the prolonged conflict that has evolved since 1991.
The escalation from an isolated incident to a persistent war of attrition has resulted in recurring Gorilla attacks, leaving victims anxiously anticipating the next onslaught without signs of intervention.
While some may attribute the conflict to religious factors, it is crucial to resist such simplifications, as they inadvertently fuel the perpetrators’ senseless actions. The victims, often labeled as “Religious,” may not realize that such categorizations strengthen a unilateral expansionist mindset rather than addressing the root causes.
Examining the defined theaters of war, including Southern Kaduna, Barkin-Ladi, Bokkos, Bassa, and the expansive Mangu region with its political complexities, reveals a pattern of destruction linked to political undertones. The recurrent targeting of areas based on the governor’s origin raises significant questions that demand answers.
Despite the prevalence of videos linking the Fulani to a considerable percentage of attacks, and their establishment of a vigilante army, the victims appear to react rather than proactively strategize. The lack of a tribal-specific vigilante establishment in a cosmopolitan environment contributes to the destructive plans and careful executions.
The call for Plateau to rethink its approach to attacks is underscored by the unacceptable establishment of the Fulani vigilance army with a narrative suggesting conquest.
Advocating for the defense of private property under Section 7 of the Criminal Code becomes crucial in the face of ongoing attacks.
The narrative shifts to questioning the military’s operational plans, the alleged connivance, or complicity, of the military, the nonexistent state of the police, and the need for intensified self-defense measures.
Identifying the actual culprits behind the assaults and understanding the motivations behind Plateau being earmarked for extermination are critical concerns that demand attention from the ethnic nationalities and leaders.
In conclusion, Plateau faces a complex crisis that requires a comprehensive, strategic approach to address the root causes and protect its people from further harm. Dr. Samaila AA Rukuba emphasizes the need for collective action and a reevaluation of current responses to ensure the security and well-being of the Plateau community.
