PDP Blasts Critics of Convention, Labels Opposition “Ignorant and Desperate”
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on critics of its March 29, 2026 National Convention, dismissing their objections as baseless, ignorant, and driven by desperation.
In a press statement issued by the Plateau State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Samaila Achigak Rukuba, the party described the opposition to the convention as “a display of ignorance, intellectual ineptitude, and political servitude,” insisting that the gathering was lawful, decisive, and irreversible.
The PDP said attempts to discredit the convention were nothing more than “a tantrum” by “displaced political actors” seeking relevance after losing influence within the party. According to the statement, critics have failed to present any credible legal or political argument, instead relying on speculation and misinformation.
Reacting to claims that pending court cases invalidated the convention, the party dismissed such assertions as “laughable,” noting that litigation does not equate to judgment. It accused its detractors of lacking basic legal understanding and misrepresenting judicial processes to mislead the public.
The party also pointed to the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the convention as clear evidence of its legitimacy, questioning how an event monitored by the electoral body could be described as illegal.
The statement further criticised the mention of political figures such as Nyesom Wike and Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the controversy, describing it as a diversionary tactic aimed at masking weak arguments and internal grievances.
According to the PDP, the backlash is coming from individuals who had long benefited from the party’s structure but are now struggling to adjust to a new order. It described them as “political dependents” unable to cope with the party’s evolving direction.
“The PDP Convention held on March 29, 2026, was decisive, conclusive, and irreversible,” the statement read, adding that the party has “closed that chapter permanently” and moved beyond what it called a culture of entitlement and internal manipulation.
The party warned that no amount of media pressure or legal maneuvering would overturn what it described as the “political reality” established by the convention, stressing that grassroots legitimacy cannot be manufactured through press statements or court filings.
In a final note, the PDP called on members to align with the party’s new direction or step aside, declaring that it is no longer a platform for political dependency but a movement focused on winning future elections.
“The train has left the station,” the statement concluded, “and it has picked up speed.”
