JUST IN: Another State Govt Declares Friday As Public Holiday
The Ogun State Government has declared Friday a public holiday ahead of the LG elections in the state.
Dtruth Insights recalls that the Ondo State Government had also declared Friday as public holiday to allow civil servants and others to their communities to exercise their civil responsibilities ahead of the November 16th Governorship election.
The Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has fixed November 16 for the conduct of the polls across the 20 LGAs and 236 wards.
In a statement on Thursday, Kehinde Onasanya, head of the service, said the holiday will allow the electorate to travel to their respective LGAs to exercise their franchise.
“The bureau of service matters, office of the head of service, has announced that the Ogun state government has approved Friday, November 15, 2024, as a work-free day for civil and public servants,” the statement reads.
“This directive, approved by His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, is intended to give workers the opportunity to travel to their respective local government areas to participate in the local government election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
“This initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to fostering inclusiveness and participatory democracy.”
Onasanya added that permanent secretaries and heads of agencies have been instructed to enforce the directive.
