The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone, has secured a firm commitment from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Bolorunduro Division, Ilesa, to end all forms of exploitation and unprofessional conduct reportedly perpetrated by some police officers around campus gates in the area.

During a strategic engagement held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the NANS Southwest delegation led by the Director of Campus Affairs II, Comrade Oyetunmbi Abiola Tayo (Bismart), alongside Comrade Oyeleke Sodiq, Comrade Ibraheem Oladele, Comrade Aderogba Oluwafemi, and Lady Comrade Oladipupo Rabiat—expressed deep concern over recurring complaints of harassment and unethical practices faced by students.

The student leaders emphasized the urgent need for improved security architecture around campuses and urged the police to adopt more proactive and ethical measures in safeguarding students’ lives and property.

They stressed that any form of intimidation, extortion, or misconduct by security operatives undermines the Nigeria Police Force’s core mandate and contradicts professional standards.

Responding, the DPO commended the NANS Southwest team for their maturity and constructive approach in presenting the issues.

He assured them that the division has already initiated steps to reinforce security and eliminate any unprofessional behaviour among officers within the jurisdiction.

The DPO further pledged that no officer under his command would henceforth be involved in acts of exploitation, warning that any policeman found culpable would face immediate disciplinary action in line with established regulations.

In reaction, the NANS Southwest leadership welcomed the assurance and charged the police to maintain consistency, noting that students deserve a safe, conducive, and intimidation-free academic environment.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to continuous engagement with relevant authorities to protect student welfare across the Southwest.
