Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Friday reeled out a catalogue of infrastructural and institutional developments embarked upon by his administration in Ijesaland, as part of efforts to reposition the ancient town for modern relevance.

Speaking at the coronation anniversary of the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, held at the palace grounds in Ilesa, Adeleke described the new monarch as a patriotic gentleman, a loyal statesman, and a seasoned businessman who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service and community advancement.

The governor, while congratulating the people of Ijesaland on what he described as “a historic occasion”, said the installation of Oba Haastrup marked the continuation of a legacy of visionary leadership.

He also paid glowing tribute to the late Owa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, whom he called “the builder of modern Ijesaland”.

Highlighting key milestones under his watch, Adeleke announced that the University of Ilesa had secured accreditation for over 50 academic programmes, and that internal infrastructure development was ongoing.

He added that the General Hospital, Ilesa, had now been approved as the teaching hospital for the university, positioning the town as a future hub of medical excellence.

He further noted that the ongoing dualisation of the Ereja Square to Brewery Junction road, spanning over 12 kilometres, was nearing completion and would open up Ilesa for business and tourism.

On the mining front, Adeleke disclosed that his government had intensified reforms to address illegal mining, reduce environmental degradation, and increase state earnings from natural resources, including securing Osun’s shareholding in the Segilola Gold Project operated by Thor Exploration Ltd.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to partner with the new monarch through public-private collaborations to fast-track Ijesaland’s development, while also assuring that his government remained committed to spreading infrastructure and investment across all regions of the state.

“Kabiyesi, I congratulate you once again and I wish your reign a peaceful and prosperous one. I identify with the people of Ijesaland on this momentous day,” he concluded.
